School Programs

National Honor Society (Grades 10–12) and National Junior Honor Society (Grades 8–9) are selective organizations recognizing students who exemplify academic excellence, strong character, a commitment to service, and leadership ability. Once inducted, members work together to support peers, participate in charitable initiatives, and contribute to both school and community life.

The ASPIRA of NY After School Program at LGJ offers a vibrant, student-centered space where participants engage in enriching activities like debate, comic book creation, sports, anime clubs, and leadership development. Operating Monday through Friday from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, the program provides daily homework help, life skills workshops, and exciting field trips. Led by Program Director Deon Whitter, the team fosters a safe, inclusive environment that supports academic growth, creativity, and community building. Applications are available in Room 232B or the Main Office.

The Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) is New York City’s official high school sports organization, offering students the opportunity to compete in over 25 varsity sports while building teamwork, discipline, and school pride. At LGJ, PSAL teams represent the school across the city in sports like basketball, volleyball, soccer, and track, fostering physical fitness, leadership, and community spirit. With over 45,000 student-athletes citywide, PSAL provides a structured, inclusive platform for athletic growth and personal development.

CUP’s Youth Education program brings civic engagement and art into the classroom, empowering students to investigate how their city works and how they can shape it. Through hands-on research and creative expression, students explore social justice issues and share their findings with the community.

Green Team is a student-driven program committed to protecting our planet and promoting sustainable habits within our school community. Through hands-on projects, environmental awareness campaigns, and collaborative initiatives, students learn how everyday actions can make a meaningful difference. The team works to reduce waste, conserve resources, and inspire others to care for the environment. 

E‑Sports is a competitive gaming program that brings students together to build teamwork, strategy, and digital skills in a fun and engaging environment. Players train, compete, and grow as they learn communication, sportsmanship, and problem‑solving through organized gaming events and tournaments. The program creates a space where students can challenge themselves, support one another, and take pride in representing our school in the fast‑growing world of competitive gaming.

Culture Club at LGJ is a welcoming space where students come together to celebrate the many cultures, traditions, and identities that make our community unique. Through discussions, activities, food, music, and student‑led presentations, members explore global perspectives while building understanding and unity within the school. The club encourages creativity, respect, and pride in who we are while learning about the world around us.
