Welcome to Bronx LGJ

Principal's Message

Welcome to The Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice, an Urban Assembly School. It is my honor and privilege to lead this amazing school. The Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice (LGJ) opened its doors in September 1997 under the leadership of founding principal David C. Banks, welcoming 64 eager freshmen. Since then, we have grown to 794 students in grades 6–12. LGJ was the first Urban Assembly school, planned and developed from the vision of Richard A. Kahan, Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer, and the Bronx Criminal Court Task Force.

LGJ is the only high school in NYC to offer students in grades 6–12 a series of electives connected to our theme of Law, Government, and Justice. The school was founded on the belief that students should have the opportunity to learn the inner workings of the judicial system without having to go through the system. Thanks to our many community, public, and private partnerships, we are able to make this vision a reality. In September 2004, we moved into our brand-new, state-of-the-art facility, which we share with the Bronx Criminal Court Complex.

At LGJ, we pride ourselves on being able to say: We are family! As we’ve grown, not a week goes by without a member of our LGJ family returning to visit, celebrate, or simply walk the halls and reflect on the legacy they’ve helped build. I invite you to explore our website and learn more about the LGJ family and the vibrant learning community we’ve created for our scholars.

Thank you for taking the time to explore The Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice website — where we are all Champions of the C.H.A.R.G.E.!
