The LGJ community is still glowing after a unique night on Broadway, where students attended the production of PROOF, a show that blends theater, mathematics, and psychology in ways that deeply connected with our scholars.
From the moment the performance began, our students were fully immersed. Two students, seated in Row A of the orchestra, were just an arm’s length from actor Don Cheadle. During intermission, they rushed up to the mezzanine to share the psychology connections they had spotted, a moment that made their teachers beam with pride. Meanwhile, students seated with Ms. Woodruff were identifying prime numbers and catching the many math references throughout the show. It was a true celebration of learning beyond the classroom.
Our students also represented LGJ with maturity and enthusiasm. A woman seated nearby, who later revealed to be a high school teacher visiting from Atlanta, complimented how engaged and thoughtful our students were. Even their whispered reactions, she said, were “honest, connected, and enlightening.” That kind of feedback speaks volumes about who our students are.
After the show, chaperones Ms. Keen and Ms. Woodruff led the group to the stage door, where students waited to meet the cast. For many, this was their first time experiencing Broadway up close. For one student, this was his first Broadway show, and he loved every moment.
The night became even better when Tony Award–winning actress Kara Young took selfies with the students and chatted with them. Her warmth and energy made the moment unforgettable.
But the most life‑changing moment belonged to one specific student. When Don Cheadle learned it was her first play, he congratulated her by name, a moment that sent the entire group into joyful disbelief. It’s the kind of memory that stays with a student forever.
This trip was more than a night at the theater; it was a reminder of why saying YES to opportunities matters. YES to the arts. YES to exploration. YES to experiences that expand our students’ worlds.
Thank you to everyone who made this night possible, and to our incredible students for representing LGJ with pride, curiosity, and heart.
