LGJ Winter Sports Season Begins November 1

The winter sports season is almost here, and LGJ is encouraging students in grades 9–12 to get involved by joining one of our athletic teams. Practices officially begin on November 1, providing students with an opportunity to develop their athletic abilities while gaining valuable life skills both on and off the court and track.

Faculty members play a vital role in helping students discover opportunities that can positively impact their high school experience. A simple conversation or word of encouragement can inspire a student to step outside their comfort zone and become part of a team.

Participation in school athletics offers benefits that extend far beyond competition. Student-athletes often demonstrate stronger academic performance, improved attendance, and greater self-discipline. Sports also help students build confidence, learn teamwork, develop leadership skills, and create lasting connections with their peers and coaches.

Teachers are encouraged to share their own experiences with sports and extracurricular activities. Personal stories can be powerful motivators and help students understand the many ways athletics can contribute to personal growth and future success. Faculty can also help identify students who may benefit from a structured, positive after-school activity and encourage them to explore available opportunities.
